Our Finish: N3 Nano Protective Topcoat
Every Canyon Ranch Customs table top is finished with N3 Nano — a professional-grade, water-based polyurethane topcoat engineered for hardwood surfaces that actually get used.
We chose N3 Nano because it performs at the level this furniture demands. Here's what that means for you:
What It Does
- Water resistance — Spills bead up and wipe away. Your table can handle daily family life without panic.
- Scratch and abrasion resistance — A hard, durable surface film that holds up against dishes, homework, and everything else that lands on a dining table.
- UV protection — Slows the natural color shift that happens when wood is exposed to sunlight over time.
- Low VOC, water-based formula — Safer to apply, lower odor, and kinder to the environment than traditional oil-based finishes.
- Clear, non-yellowing cure — N3 Nano dries crystal clear and stays that way, preserving the true color of the wood and stain beneath it.
How It's Applied
We apply multiple coats with light sanding between each layer. The result is a smooth, even surface that feels professional — not plastic. The finish enhances the wood without masking it.
What About the Base?
Wood bases are finished with a tone-on-tone stain or two-tone painted finish. Metal bases receive a durable powder coat in flat black or white. None of our bases use N3 Nano — it is formulated specifically for flat, horizontal wood surfaces where moisture and abrasion are the primary concerns.
Long-Term Care
N3 Nano is a tough finish, but it's not indestructible. Like any hardwood table, yours will benefit from reasonable care — wiping up standing liquid promptly, using placemats and coasters, and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners. For full care instructions, visit our Table Care & Support page.
Six Stain Options
All stains are applied to the wood before the N3 Nano topcoat is sealed over the top. The topcoat locks in the color and protects it.
- Natural — No stain. The wood speaks for itself. Best for White Oak, Walnut, and Wormy Maple.
- Special Walnut — A light, warm brown. Enhances grain without darkening it significantly.
- Provincial — A medium warm-toned brown. One of our most versatile stains across all species.
- Dark Walnut — Deep, rich brown. Dramatic on light species like Maple and Ash.
- Jacobean — Our darkest stain. Near-espresso tone. Creates maximum contrast on light-colored species.
- Hand Distressed — The top is worked by hand before finishing — wire brushed, dented, and marked to give it the character of a much older piece. Adds $50 to any order.
Questions about which stain works best with your chosen species? We'd love to help you decide.
