Finding the right size table starts with two questions: how many people do you want to seat, and how much room do you have to work with? This guide will walk you through both.

HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU WANT TO SEAT?

As a general rule, allow 24 inches of table length per person for comfortable seating.

  • 5ft (60") — seats 4 to 6
  • 6ft (72") — seats 6 to 8
  • 7ft (84") — seats 8 to 10
  • 8ft (96") — seats 8 to 10 comfortably, up to 12 with bench seating
  • 9ft (108") — seats 10 to 12
  • 10ft (120") — seats 12 to 14

The Monastery is also available in an extended configuration with an optional leaf — seats up to 14. The Rosette is our only round style, available in diameters from 60" to 120".

HOW MUCH ROOM DO YOU NEED?

Allow at least 36 inches on all sides of the table for chairs to pull out comfortably. 42 to 48 inches is ideal.

Example: A 6ft table is 72 inches long. Add 36 inches on each end — you need a room at least 12 feet long. A 14-foot room gives you the comfortable 48-inch clearance on each end.

For open floor plans, err on the larger side — the table will look more grounded with breathing room around it.

WHICH HEIGHT IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Dining height — 30" Standard dining height. Works with all dining chairs. The right choice for 95% of dining rooms.

Counter height — 36" Pairs with 24" counter stools. Common in kitchen islands, breakfast nooks, and casual dining spaces. Adds a relaxed, informal feel.

Bar height — 42" Pairs with 30" bar stools. Best for pub-style spaces, game rooms, and entertainment areas. Available on The Cottonwood, Ridgeline, Maverick, and Blackwood.

HOW WIDE SHOULD YOUR TABLE BE?

Standard width is 36 inches — comfortable for place settings on both sides with room for serving dishes in the center.

If you want a more generous table, we offer widths up to 52 inches:

  • 42" wide — comfortable for larger place settings
  • 45" wide — good for family-style serving
  • 48" wide — generous, great for holidays and entertaining
  • 52" wide — grand scale, pairs best with 8ft to 10ft lengths

BENCHES VS. CHAIRS

Benches seat more people per foot of table length and give a relaxed, gathered feel. We size our benches to match your table:

  • 47" bench — pairs with 5ft tables
  • 60" bench — pairs with 6ft to 7ft tables
  • 72" bench — pairs with 8ft to 10ft tables

Chairs offer more flexibility — mix and match, pull extras from another room, or add an arm chair at the heads of the table.
